Just Do It

The gift of giving may be the greatest gift of all. It is a joyful feeling to bring happiness to other people, and even more so when it is done simply because it is the right thing to do. A gift is something that has no expectation of being returned, and Nike has done just that.

I was able to meet Mr. Brewer during a recent breakfast event presented by the Greater Memphis Chamber. It was inspirational to hear of such positive actions coming from one of my favorite brands. Nike is actually one of the factors that inspired me to start my company, Brand Name, which is all the more reason I paid close attention to Mr. Brewer's words about some of the great things that Nike does right here in Memphis. Memphis serves as one of the biggest distribution centers in the world with over 1,000,000 sq. ft. of facilities alone. But the true representation of this great company resides in the kid's playground at Shelby Farms Park, more commonly referred to as the "Woodland Discovery Playground." This uniquely designed play site includes slides, swings, sand pits, and two tree houses. The ground is composed of Nike-Grind, a material made from recycled athletic shoes. Now that is cool! And even cooler, the playground is free and open to the public. This simple act shows how great things can come from anyone and bring joy into someone's life. Whether you are the largest apparel company in the world or a Memphis based clothing line, you too can give the gift of giving. So don't hesitate to to be a blessing to someone,"just do it."
