DJing

What do you think about when you think of the birth of hip-hop? Do you think about the music or do you think about the culture that has evolved into a FRESH lifestyle. First, you have to put into perspective where exactly hip-hop came from. One of the first hip-hop DJ's was DJ Kool Herc, who created hip-hop in 1973 through the isolation of breaks (the parts of albums that focused solely on the beats) performing at block parties in the Bronx. DJ Kool Herc developed a technique of using turntables not only to play music, but to manipulate sound and create an origin of music. This new style developed into a term called "Turntablism," which made DJ Kool Herc arguably the father of hip-hop and the founding element behind other pioneer DJs such as Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, and Jam Master Jay, whose careers have taken off due to this great art.

In the early years of hip-hop, the DJs were the stars, but in 1978, the show was taken over by the MCs. Since, B-boying, Graffiti Art, MCing, and DJing have contributed to make hip-hop the biggest urban culture in the world. Just like you have to put the pieces together to make a puzzle, these four key elements make a hip-hop masterpiece. Hip-hop is something that I love and this element is a big part of my FRESH lifestyle. Like always, enjoy and stay FRESH !!
